Artek - long-lived classics
Artek was founded in 1935 to sell and market furniture designed by Alvar Aalto. Artek's founders Alvar and Aino Aalto, Nils-Gustav Hahl and Maire Gullichsen published a manifesto drawn up in the spirit of functionalism, according to which Artek's purpose was "to trade in furniture and to promote modern housing culture through exhibitions and other means".
Artek's original values – durability and high quality combined with a clean design language – are still at the core of the company. Artek's powerhouses Alvar and Aino Aalto created their own warm and human style for modern interior design, where nature was a major inspiration.
