Nils Strinning designed the String shelving system in 1949. The product participated in a bookshelf design competition in Sweden and won it. The reason for the victory was the same reason why it is still very popular today. The shelves fit into a compact space and are easy to assemble and combine. The advanced construction allowed for a visually light appearance, with a modern look that has kept it timeless.
