Jonas Herman, who designed the Taper shelf, has described the creation of the shelf as follows:
"The design process started with the idea of ​​framing the shelves with curved corners that would resemble a closed box – but without the restrictive feel of a box. I wanted these curves to not only act as a load-bearing structure but also shape the visual appearance of the shelving. The hardness of the steel is balanced by the curved edges, making the appearance of the individual elements softer and clearer. This also allowed for the structure to be lighter in both appearance and material – which was an important part of the overall concept."
