The Artek 400, nicknamed the Tank Armchair, is a timeless design classic designed by Alvar Aalto in 1936. The armchair's recognizable look is built on wide, bent birch armrests, an upholstered seat and backrest, and a carefully finished structure. The pair of armrests, cut from a single piece of birch lamella, settles in uniformly, preventing the chair from becoming wobbly over time. The Zebra upholstery finishes the look of the Artek 400 armchair with one of Artek's most well-known textiles. The Zebra wool fabric, discovered by Aino Aalto in the 1930s, combines a soft surface and a recognizable black-and-white pattern.
