See your home in a new light

During the day, home lighting can serve many different purposes. The need for light also always changes with the season, the space and, for example, the type of work being done. With the right kind of lighting, you can modify the atmosphere to exactly what you want or even emphasize certain pieces of furniture and art on the wall in a targeted manner. Sometimes its good to stop and think about whether a space could be better used with a different kind of lighting and lamp.

The appropriate bulb is always selected according to the lamp, but regardless of the lamp, it is often recommended to use LED bulbs. High-quality LED bulbs are energy-efficient, offer excellent color reproduction and have a long service life. If you want soft and atmospheric lighting, you should choose a bulb with an opal surface.

Playing with lighting

By taking into account the shadows created by the lamp, it is possible to create spectacular drama in the space. Different reflections through the window can create beautiful changing patterns, and for example, the Artek Golden Bell creates a wonderful halo around the lamp. When creating plays of light and shadow, it is recommended to place the lamps at different heights, so that the light can come from different directions and heights. It is also important to consider the interaction of direct, indirect, and diffused light.

Thanks to dimming, you can easily control the overall appearance of the space. Dimming helps not only in creating a certain atmosphere, but also in adjusting the right kind of work lighting. If there is a known renovation, you should consider about installing dimmable light switches in different rooms of the home.

A lamp suitable for the space

Different lamps can be found in every room at home, and sometimes choosing the right kind of lamp can be difficult. In addition to the design and your own preferences, you should also take into account the need for light and the occasions when the lamp will be used. Besides ceiling lamps, the living room often has a place for various floor lamps by the lounge chair or a table lamp on top of the TV stand. If the floor lamp is also intended to function as a reading light, the bulb must be bright enough so that the eyes are not strained by reading. The suitable brightness in this case is usually around 400-500 lm.

Above the dining table, one or more hanging lamps often serve well, depending on the size of the table and the space. If the dining table is primarily used only for eating, it is good to choose a lamp that provides soft and atmospheric light that does not dazzle. If, on the other hand, the dining table also regularly functions as a desk, it would be good for the lamp to produce bright light across the entire width of the tabletop. In this case, it is good for the lamp to be slightly larger in size. The lamp above the dining table should be boldly positioned low enough so that it remains approximately 55-70 cm above the tabletop.

Ceiling and wall lamps work in various low vestibules, which do not further reduce the height of the space even more. If, on the other hand, the room height is more than 260 cm, you can enhance the space with a hanging lamp that will surely catch the attention of visitors. A wall lamp that adds a cozy and warm atmosphere is best placed at a height of about 180 centimeters from the floor, assuming a ceiling height of about 260 cm. If you install the wall lamp in a space higher than this, you may adjust the lamp higher in the same proportion. However, as a rule of thumb, it is advisable to keep the wall lights below the door frames.
