Artek + Marimekko 60 stool Seireeni celebrates Artek's 90th anniversary. Seireeni is one of three patterns selected from Maija Isola's Arkkitehti series. The pattern is skillfully made into the surface of the stool using the intarsia technique, which makes the patterns appear to shimmer on the surface of the furniture. The pattern always appears slightly different, depending on the direction of view. The end result is reminiscent of Isola's ability to find the wonders of nature and the beauty of everyday life. The Artek 60 stool is a diamond of Finnish furniture design, designed by Alvar Aalto. The beautiful L-shaped stool design will never get old. In the late 1920s, architect and designer Alvar Aalto began experimenting with wood bending. Together with furniture maker Otto Korhonen, Aalto developed a groundbreaking process that resulted in the L-leg. The iconic leg is created by cutting slits into a piece of wood below the bend, into which wooden slats are glued. Aalto called the L-leg the little sister of the architectural column. Long-standing traditions in furniture production were interrupted when Aalto patented the technique in 1933. The warm, organic wood material was now used to make durable and robust furniture.
