The chair's short armrests provide surprisingly good support and allow the chair to be placed close to a table. The chair is so comfortable that it invites you to sit for longer. The modest wooden chair became an international sales success from the very beginning. The chair was designed together with an armchair for the student dormitory of Domus Academica in 1946. The stackable Domus chair was created to suit both studying and dining. The chair was Finland's first post-war export success, which was also known as "The Finn Chair". Knoll served as the chair's distributor in the large American market.

The chair brought success to its designer, and Tapiovaara received, among others, the Good Design award in Chicago in 1950 and gold at the Milan Triennale the following year. Since 2010, the Domus chair has rightfully had its place in Artek's collection alongside other Ilmari Tapiova classics. Both the Domus chair and the armchair share the same distinctive appearance and short armrests.

Price K140 with fabric from the price group.
